Giant babies and presumptuous Shih Tzus...

My tiny, 4lb preemie has managed to defeat the odds and suddenly get big.

We took Asa to his 16 month checkup this week only to discover he had jumped from the 25% to the 75% in height! Considering his mom and dad are both so not tall, this is amazing. And what's even more amazing is that he was only 16" long at birth, 7 weeks early. Now the numbers tell us that he is taller than 75% of babies his age. Crazy.

I'm sort of wondering if they just mis-measured?

He's still a skinny monkey, in only the 15%, but that's better than his brother, who barely squeaks by in the 5% for weight :)

And in other news:

Yes, that's our dog, Molly, making herself comfortable in Asa's lap on the ride over to the groomer. The funniest thing about this picture is how casual Asa looks. He's just sitting there sucking his thumb, basically ignoring the fact that there's a 16lb ball of fur sitting in his lap.

Then again, Asa is the king of cool. Here's another example of him acting casual (almost to the point of indifference) in an otherwise unusual situation:

But one thing he's certainly not casual about is walking. Or, at least, almost walking. He refuses to walk on his own and instead prefers to walk around the house (over and over) while holding on to someone's hand. He giggles and jabbers the entire time. Here he is taking Asher for a walk:

Asa is a late-walker, just like Asher was. Part of me can't wait for him to finally walk on his own; the other part of me can.

For now, I'll leave you with possibly the cutest photo I've ever taken.

  1. Cutest kids! Asa is a rockstar! Gentry is going to be the same way- no motivation to crawl whatsoever. One day!
