Running like a princess

Recently I read about a race. Not just any race. I'm talkin', like, the best race I can imagine.

It's the Disney Princess Half-Marathon.

Now, anyone who knows Matt and me knows how we feel about Walt Disney World. We honeymooned there. We vacation there as often as possible every year. We spend hours working on our dining plans meticulously spelled out in an Excel spreadsheet, and faithfully book reservations at the allotted 6-month-prior mark.

You could say we're crazy enthusiasts.

So how on earth could I pass up the chance to run a race through Disney World? Simple answer: I couldn't.

I ran a half-marathon several years ago in Bermuda. The weather was horrendous. The roads are hilly. But I finished, got my medal, and vowed never to do it again.

So, naturally, I signed up for another one. It's like childbirth, I guess - you forget the pain and go on to do it again.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't doing it for the fashion. Honestly, it was the photos of all those women running in tutus and tiaras with Cinderella Castle behind them that got to me. How could I resist? After registering for the race online, the first thing I did was hop over to Etsy to order myself all the appropriate gear.

I'm currently in the thick of training. Now, I had a baby 10 months ago. That means it's been way more than 17 months since I'd done any sort of running. I was utterly and completely starting from scratch. But now that I'm building up my distance and speed, it's wonderful to be back into it again.

February really isn't that far away.
